 PSDC Best Practices in Staff Development Award

    Annually the Pennsylvania Department of Education, in partnership with the Pennsylvania Staff Development Council (PSDC), requests nominations of staff development programs that are making a difference in Pennsylvania schools.  One nomination is selected to receive the annual PSDC Exemplary Staff Development Award, which includes a plaque and attendance at the annual PSDC instituteThis year's winner was the Colonial School District.

Colonial School District wins for 2006!

      The Colonial School District has prided itself on a comprehensive and cohesive staff development program. The program features the sharing of “Best Practices,” the use of formative assessments, student and teacher reflections on learning targets and analysis and improvement of teaching practices. The Colonial program was recently validated with the 2006 Pennsylvania Staff Development Council Best Practices in Staff Development Award. Colonial is the sixth recipient of the award, which was first handed out in 2001, and the first winner from Montgomery County.

2007 Best Practices In Staff Development Award

Every year the Pennsylvania Staff Development Council (PSDC) presents an award to a school district or an educational organization in Pennsylvania. 

One nomination will be selected by a PSDC committee to receive the 2007 PSDC Best Practices in Staff Development Award.  The award will include a recognition plaque and complimentary registration to the October 3 and 4, 2007 PSDC Conference in Harrisburg. 

The criteria for selection will be evidence that the staff development:

  1. Is strategic and aligned with the goals of the organization
  2. Is focused on Pennsylvania state academic standards
  3. Is a model of the NSDC Standards for Staff Development
  4. Is sustained over time (at least three years) and job–embedded
  5. Increases student achievement
  6. Is researched based

 Colonial School District

 

2005

 West Chester Area School District Literacy Staff  Development Program, which focuses on data analysis to inform instruction, is to attain the objectives of the district Strategic Plan. These goals are for each student to demonstrate proficiency in state and district standards and to ensure that students achieve their personal best.

2004

Abstract:   Muncy School District was the recipient of PSDC’s Best Practices in Staff  Development for their Staff Developer In-Residence Program. This program was developed by their Act 48 committee and is a component of their Act 48 plan. Their plan includes a review of their staff development needs. When the district determines that a group of teachers has a common need, they find a staff developer in residence to work with that particular group of teachers on that particular need.

2003

Abstract:  The New Hope-Solebury School District Consensus and Results-Driven Staff Development Program was selected from 15 nominations to receive the 2003 PSDC Exemplary Staff Development Award.  The program is based on focused continuous improvement and has improved staff and student performance.

2002

Abstract: The Hempfield School District Professional Development Program was selected from 12 Best Practices in Staff Development nominations to receive the 2002 PSDC Exemplary Staff Development Award.  The program is the result of a five-year effort to improve the district professional development program.

2001

Abstract: The Palisades School District Data-Driven Staff Development Program was selected from nine Best Practices in Staff Development nominations to receive the 2001 PSDC Exemplary Staff Development Award. The program stemmed from the district mission to enable all students to master academic skills, concepts and knowledge and use of the PSSA and New Standards Reference exams to assess progress toward achieving the mission.
